Fort Lauderdale Airport Shooting 5 dead, 45 injured

Five people were killed and 45 were injured, when a gunman open fire at Fort Lauderdale Airport in south Florida.

According to authorities the gunman is identified as a 26 year old Esteban Santiago, who was an Army National Guard veteran, served in Iraq and was honorably discharged from his rank in the Alaskan National Guard in August, in link with the shootings. His brother said that Santiago was receiving psychological treatment recently.

According to the US officials. Santiago was a passenger on a Delta flight from Anchorage via Minneapolis and he was carrying a checked gun, which he loaded in the bathroom before allegedly opened fire in the baggage area of second terminal

According Broward Sheriff’s five people were shot dead, eight were critically injured, and 37 other people suffered from minor injuries after the incident, including panic attacks and diabetic-related issues, according to the Broward Sheriff's office.

Governor of Florida Rick Scott said that the shooting was an “evil and despicable act.” He has called for prayers for the victims who were injured in hospitals and other are fighting their lies.

He also told the reporters that it was not the time to be "political" and discuss about the gun rights. It is reported that Governor Scott did not phone President Barack Obama, but rather he made a call to President-elect Donald Trump.

"I am going to do everything I can to keep everyone safe," he told CNN. "I'm not going to tolerate this."

Donald Trump tweeted: “Monitoring the terrible situation in Florida. Just spoke to Governor Scott. Thoughts and prayers for all. Stay safe!”

President Barack Obama said that it was too early to say, if the incident was an act of terrorism.

" I am heartbroken, these kinds of tragedies have happened too often during the years I have been president," President Obama said.

Fort Lauderdale is the largest tourist hub in Florida,In an average 80,000-100,000 passengers travel every day through this city.

Soon after the incident, Miami International Airport announced an "extra security measures" and have been put in place "out of an abundance of caution".
