England Are Strong Favourites To Win 2019 World Cup: Sunil Gavaskar February 16, 2019 11:48

Former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar feels England are strong favourites over India to win 2019 World Cup and he also picked the likely semifinalists in upcoming tournament. He Explains that England after early exit in 2015 world cup they have moulded themselves and became formidable team in One Day format. India on other side have only lost one ODI series since Champions Trophy in 2017. But incidentally that came against England last year. “The strong favourites in the World Cup tournament are England. And it is not because of the fact that it will be a home World Cup for them. But because they have changed their attitude towards ODI cricket. They had lost in the league stage in 2015 World Cup, probably against Bangladesh. But since then, the manner in which they changed their game, the way in which they picked their team, England have grown into a strong side. They have a good opening pair, they have strong middle-order batters, they also have a good all-rounder in the form of and when you play at home you also have a strong backing,” Sunil Gavaskar told to India Today. However, Gavaskar feels that India have some advantage in the world cup because having played in England for two consecutive years in champions trophy-2017 and ODI series against England in 2018. He added, “The advantage that India have is they have played in England for two consecutive years - 2017 and 2018. So the players who will be part of the World Cup squad will be aware of the conditions and hence will be able to use their experience and probably India can use the factor to lift the World Cup. But I feel the most favourites are England and then come India.” He then picked possible semifinalists in the tournament i.e Pakistan, Australia along with England and India “Pakistan have always been a formidable side. And the Australian team will look strong with the return of Steve Smith and David Warner. So these four teams will be in the semifinals. New Zealand are also favourites because conditions in England are almost similar to theirs. So they cane spring a surprise, but they have never gone ahead of semifinals as what I have seen,”he said. -Sai Kumar

Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and a member of The Kapil Sharma Show has been asked to leave the popular television comedy talk show in the wake of his comments on the Pulwama terror attack. He will be replaced by Archana Puran Singh on the show. “His remarks have not been taken kindly by most. Also, the channel and the show was getting dragged into the unwanted controversy. This is when the team amicably decided that Navjot make a distance from the show. The team has already shot a couple of episodes with Archana,” a source told indianexpress.com. Earlier, Sidhu, during a media interaction, said, “Nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists. The terrorists do not have deen, mazhab (sect and religion). There are good, the bad and the ugly. Every institution has them. Every nation has them. The ugly need to be punished. But individuals cannot be blamed for the dastardly act.” The former cricketer’s comments were met with rough criticism and since then social media has been flooded with posts demanding his exit from The Kapil Sharma Show. This is not the first instance that Sony TV has taken a stand over a controversy. After Anu Malik was named in the MeToo campaign, he was sacked overnight as a judge from Indian Idol 10. Interestingly, Archana Puran Singh had also replaced Sidhu in The Kapil Sharma Show in 2017 after the latter had fallen sick. -Sowmya Sangam

Visiting USA for the First Time? Here Are Some Tips for You to Note February 16, 2019 10:51

The majority Indians dream about visiting the United States of America at least once in their life, and since it turned out to be quotidian these days, thinking of putting down roots in the U.S. has strengthened to a great extent. So if you one among those planning to visit the U.S. for the first time, a lot of questions may pop up in your mind. Apart from material things, there is a big difference between India and the U.S., including lifestyle and culture. Below are a few points to bear in your mind before visiting the U.S. for the first time: Learn to Drive Public transportation is definitely not a good idea in the U.S., except for a few places like New York. That being the case, learning to drive a car is all the time a good thing. Try to get the international driving license so that you can learn and drive for some time before getting a license. Mostly driving a car in the states is much effortless when compared with India since every person will be following the traffic regulations accurately. Get Medical Insurance Unlike in India, you can’t buy a small medicine in the absence of a prescription. Besides, you have to register yourself with the hospital before consulting a doctor. Since medical expenses are extremely expensive in the USA and one cannot live on without medical insurance. For the most part, the employers provide medical insurance. If not, you should get medical insurance as soon as possible. Get all the basic medicines from India. If you have a kid, then get medicines for them as well. Apart from this if you under any medication, take that too along with the original prescriptions. Basic Kitchen Appliances Although most of the kitchen appliances are acquirable in the USA, it is always more fitting to take some from India due to the difference in cost. It is good to take the mixer grinder that is compatible with U.S. rating. Dedicated mixer grinders for U.S. ratings are available in many brands. In the USA only blenders are available and that cannot be used for grinding hard materials. Forget Dhoties And Sarees The dressing style in the USA casual and liberal. Men may forget to wear dhotis and women may forget to wear sarees and salwar kameez. At the start, it will seem strange but eventually, it will become a part of life. Climate In USA The climatic conditions in the USA differ with each state and it has as well many time zones. For instance, if you are in California, you won’t experience much wintertime and snowfall and the climate is the same throughout the year. In Washington D.C., you may experience severe wintertime followed by snow from September. It is advisable to purchase the winter clothes in the U.S. rather taking from India.Communication Facilities Take a laptop and internet connection as soon as possible so that you can communicate with your loved ones in India. You can get international India calling cards for making calls to India. ‘No’ Gas Cylinder There is no concept of a gas cylinder in the USA. So you don’t have to effort lifting and replacing it every time. Also, you don’t have the fuss of booking and waiting for the cylinder. In the USA all the houses will have the preinstalled ovens, either electric or gas. The gas oven is similar to the one in India having the knobs for controlling the fire except that you don’t have a cylinder. An electric oven will take some time to get heated up and you cannot control the intensity of fire much when compared with gas stove. -Sowmya Sangam

Sanjay Manjrekar Feels Dinesh Karthick’s ODI Career is Over February 16, 2019 08:40

Former Indian Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Dinesh Karthick’s One Day International career is over as he was not selected in five match ODI series against Australia in upcoming home series. As Selection Committee Chairman MSK Prasad announced the squad for Australia series Dinesh Karthick not named in the ODI List. However, Dinesh Karthick named in the T20 squad. Sanjay Manjrekar in Conversation with ESPNCricinfo said, “His fans will feel sorry because with the opportunity he has got, he has done as well as he could but I feel with this selection or non-selection of Karthik, India have told everyone that we look at Karthik as a T20 batsman and his 50-over future is over as far as we are concerned.” Dinesh Karthick got limited opportunities in ODI format but he played some crucial knocks in those. He has played 20 matches for India scoring 425 runs at an average of 47.22 since champions Trophy in 2017. “He has done well in the opportunities he has got, but he has been around for a long time and the selectors are thinking just like me - World Cup, big stage, big match, 50-overs cricket, Dinesh Karthik. Ambati Rayudu by playing that innings in New Zealand when he put India on the track of recovery and got the team to get a big score. Dinesh Karthik hasn't played that kind of an innings. He has mostly played the role of a finisher. So this is where the numbers are disregarded by the selectors, the captain, the management and they are thinking temperamentally so far what we have seen of Karthik, is he someone who will excite us a 50-overs cricket at World Cup and they have said no and I don't grudge them for that,” he said. Rishabh Pant replaced karthick in the team which was announced by selectors yesterday. He further added, “Both have got distinct weaknesses in the field with Dhoni keeping wickets. Karthik is actually little better than Pant who is a liability in the field. But because of Pant's recent exploits, he has given a sort of hope. But I am not a big supporter of Pant as a batsman because he still hasn't set the stage on fire in 50-overs cricket and so you play him no matter what.” Chief Selector MSK Prasad responded to media on inclusion of Rishabh Pant in the ODI squad said, “Prior to this, we had series in New Zealand and Australia. That is where Karthik was chosen because Rishabh played four Tests and we wanted him to get a good rest.” “Then he (Rishabh Pant) played a couple of matches against England Lions where he played extremely well. Then he played the T20I matches. So we wanted him to give him a few ODIs as well before we take the final call.” “We have included him (Rishabh Pant) considering the fact he is a left-hander. We will try and figure the best possible batting position for him. With a left-hander in the side, there is an advantage of left-right combination,” he said. We also saw Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul back in team. -Sai Kumar
