Girl Forced To Marry Her Rapist May 29, 2017 13:42

A 11-year-old girl was forced to marry her rapist in order to close the investigation, before it goes deep into the roots of the case. Sherry Johnson is from the area of Florida, it is a state in which there is no minimum age to marry. The man to whom she was made to marry is her rapist, who was 20 years old at the time. Sherry told to the New York Times that a number of other young girls of her age at the conservative Pentecostal church were made to marry men, who are much older, which she said was usually to hide the rapes by the church elders. She said that she herself was raped by both the minister and also a parishioner, and she also gave birth to her first daughter when she was just a 10 years old girl. Marrying her rapist was one the way for the community to end a investigation into the rapes. Even a judge had approved the marriage in a way to end the police probe, telling that the young girl in court, ‘What we want is for you to get married’. Now, as a adult woman, Sherry is calling for an end to the child marriage in the US – that is still far too common. ‘It was a terrible life,’ she said, remembering her life raising the children when she was just a little child herself. She missed the school, and she ended up giving birth to nine children in the total while her husband has periodically abandoned her. ‘They took the handcuffs from handcuffing him to handcuff me, by marrying me without me knowing what I was doing,’ she said. The US has strongly denounced the child marriage in other countries, with one of the State Department document calling it a ‘human rights abuse that contributes to economic hardship’. However, it has yet to make the strides in tackling child marriage closer to the home. Wanted Florida Fugitive Since 2004 Arrested Mrudula Duddempudi.

United States to ban Laptops on Board May 29, 2017 09:57

The secretary for U.S. Homeland Security, John Kelly said on 28th May that he is considering banning laptops on international flights into and out of the United States, amid signs of a high terror threats. He made his remarks during the Memorial Day weekend, which is one of the busiest travel periods in the country and the terror explosion at Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England has raised the security concerns. Terror groups could possibly involve explosives packed in electronic devices to carry out their plans. In an interview with the Fox New Sunday program, Kelly said that there is a real threat - numerous threats against aviation, when asked about the wide-reaching ban on large electronics in airplane cabins. The U.S. homeland security chief said that Islamic terror groups are "obsessed" with the idea of "knocking down an airplane in flight - particularly a U.S. carrier, if it is full of mostly American citizens." A ban on laptops could disrupt flights between European countries and the United States. Around 3,250 people a week are expected to travel this summer between Europe and the US. If the laptop ban is put in the place, it would expand the rule announced on March 21, banning gadgets larger than a smart phone from cabins of flights in the Middle East and North African countries. Countries that were affected by the ban are Morocco,  Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. In March, the United Kingdom took similar measures targeting Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. During President Donald Trump’s nine-day foreign trip, Kelly met with European Commission officials in Brussels to discuss a possible laptop ban in airplane cabins. AMandeep

Cyclist To Face Deportation After Hit By Truck May 26, 2017 10:51

A cyclist to face deportation, after he was hit by the pickup truck at a crosswalk in Florida and has been turned over to the immigration officials, said the authorities on Thursday. 31-year-old Marcos Huete, from the Honduras, has darted out in front of the truck in the Key West and also was fined $75 for hindering the traffic, according to the crash report by Florida Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck was not fined. The civil rights advocates have strongly condemned the police response as a officer can be heard on the bodycam video asking whether the man is illegal before providing him the required medical assistance as he was laying on the sidewalk beside to his bicycle. After few moments, a second Spanish-speaking officer has called for an ambulance. Olga Huete, the man's sister, said that the officers told them to return to the place of the crash, where her brother was cited and was turned over to the Border Patrol. The Florida Highway Patrol did not respond to the requests for a comment on how they will cooperate with the immigration officials in cases of traffic. Olga Huete also raised a question that why did her brother received the fine when he was riding through a crosswalk without a traffic sign or light. A Miami lawyer Yale Galanter said that the officer was within the boundaries of his rights to issue a citation but he pointed out "it's very rare that a pedestrian who has been hit by a pickup truck would be the one cited for causing his own injuries." Marcos works two jobs in the construction during day and also as a restaurant dishwasher at the night, his sister said. Huete has two daughters in his native Choluteca, Honduras. An immigration attorney was hired by his sisters to see whether they could halt his deportation. At present, Marcos is in a Miami detention center. Indian embassies around the world to mark International Day of Yoga May 25, 2017 12:58

As the International Day of Yoga (IDY) is on 21st June, the Narendra Modi government has launched extensive preparations to mark the third IDY at a much greater scale than previous two years, Particularly in North America, Europe and China. This year’s celebration is not just to spread awareness about India’s civilization ethos and strengthen the country’s soft diplomacy. But to put a check to the cultural appropriation of the ancient Indian practice by what is termed ‘western Yoga’. The ‘western Yoga’, is gaining immense popularity in the western nation and does not acknowledge the significance that Yoga has with the ancient Indian culture. The western Yoga also focuses only on mere physical exercises that are bereft of yoga’s meditation and spiritual essence. The United Nations General Assembly designated 21st June as the International Day of Yoga at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s imitative. The Indian Embassies and consulates in North & South America, Europe, Australia and China are leading the way to hold month longs Yoga events that have already started and will go on till the third week of June. In 2015 and 2016 the IDY was marked as a daylong event. Indian Embassy and consulates in the United States have partnered with local Indian cultural organization to make the event a success. The Indian Embassy in Washington D.C., has partnered with the “Friends of Yoga,” which is a group of organization that include Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), the overseas arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation, Art of Living Foundation of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Brahma Kumaris, Swami Ramdev’s Patanjali, Hindu American Foundation, Association of United Hindu and Jain Temples, Gayatri Pariwar and other Indian community organizations. The HSS greatly supported the holding of Yoga day in 2015 and 2016, but this is the first time where the Indian Embassy has brought HSS and Patanjali on board as “officials partners” on its dedicated website for the event at dcyogaday.org A spokesperson for RSS in Delhi said that  the Indian embassies will routinely invite Indian cultural outfits to help hold events and celebrate Indian festivals. In January, the United States House of Representatives took note of the HSS’ annual ‘Surya Namaskar Yajna’ or ‘Health for Humanity Yogathon’, which the HSS holds as part of its annual Makar Sankranti celebrations. Not only in the United States, but across the world Indian embassies have collaborated with city authorities to hold Yoga day celebrations. In D.C., the event will be held on June 21 at National Mall. In Chicago, a preparatory Yoga event was held on May 17 and the consulate will hold the main event on June 24. In the capital of Spain, Madrid the event will be held on June 18 and in France capital, Paris on June 17. While in Germany Capital, Berlin on 21 June. In India, PM Modi will mark the event with 55,000 people in Lucknow on June 21. The central government is making detailed plans to have senior ministers perform Yoga in key state capitals. In China, more than thousand people took part in a Yoga event on Saturday in Wuyi, Zhejiang province. According to the Indian consulate, the event was organized along with the People’s Government of Wuyi County. Wuyi’s mayor said at the event that just as Buddhism had bound the civilizations of India and China together, Yoga also has the potential to promote values of harmony and peace between the two nations. The Indian embassy in Beijing will be organizing several yoga events across the country over the next one month. The chief of HSS, Ved Nanda has sent out an appeal to the Indian community to make the Yoga day a success. He said that the International Day of Yoga is an opportunity where “we can give back to our karmabhoomi (US) the best part of our collective inheritance –Yoga.” He also stressed on the spiritual aspects of Yoga “As you know, Yoga is not a mere tool for physical fitness but more importantly is a beacon for individual’s upliftment,” he said. He said the Yoga Day events will involve all regardless of their race, faith, gender, nationality or any other similar barrier. Whereas in India, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has encouraging young people for month-long internship program for media and publicity related work for the Yoga day. When the officials first tried to reach Ammar, his father told the officials that he had left for California, the outlet said. Ammar was banned from the campus.
