University Student Hacks Computer To Change Grade

School officials said that, a university student, who is facing felony charges, has hacked into a computer to change an F grade to a B.

22-year-old Sami Adel Ammar, who attended the University of Central Florida in the Orlando, apparently did not like his F grade in the engineering class, so he allegedly hacked into a grading system and upgraded himself to B.

When the grade was changed on 4th May, an auto generated email was sent to the professor of the engineering class, thanking the professor for approving his grade roster, according to the Click Orlando.

But the professor of the engineering class, Chung Young Chan, had already finished his grading earlier in the day and also he had already received an email thanking him.

In curiosity, he looked at the grades of the class and he noticed that Ammar's F was now changed to grade B. He clearly remembered the Ammar since Ammar had completed only one class assignment, and that assignment had not been graded, Chan said.

The assignment was just to prove that he was enrolled, so that he could receive financial aid, the outlet said.

Chan tried to change back the grade, but he received an error message.

He then reported the incident to the campus police. The police were able to trace the IP address of a computer which had changed the grade to a computer inside the Mathematical Sciences Building staff room 306.

Authorities then saw a surveillance footage which showed Ammar and another student, Samuel Williams, in the area of the computer at the time when the grade was changed.

When the officials first tried to reach Ammar, his father told the officials that he had left for California, the outlet said. Ammar was banned from the campus.

On 23rd May, a warrant was issued for Ammar’s arrest, and he turned himself in on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Knight News.
