Deputies Save Felon From Burning Van

A man who ran from the deputies in central Florida is in jail, but he is alive, thanks to the with Marion County Sheriff's Office who rescued the man from a burning van. The incident began on Sunday morning when the deputies took a call about a man on his way to commit a home invasion in the Summerfield, Florida. The deputies began searching for a white van and a man who is known only by his nickname, "Gold Teeth."

As per the Marion County Sheriffs' Office, a deputy spotted the van at the convenience store. When the deputy tried to pull over the van but the driver, identified by the authorities as 28-year-old Scott Michael Beekman, kept going with van.

The Sheriff's Office said that Beekman led deputies on a chase down the several roads. On the Highway 467, the van swerved and crashed through a stop sign before hitting the tree. The van caught with fire. Dash cam video showed that deputies with their guns drawn as they cautiously approached the smoking van before realizing Beekman could not get out.

The deputies used a fire extinguisher on the flames and also broke the front window of the van to pull Beekman to safety.

As deputies got I, they found a loaded shotgun, a loaded .32 caliber gun, and also a loaded sawed-off .22 caliber rifle in the van.

Beekman, who is a convicted felon, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

He is now in the Marion County Jail facing charges of fleeing with disregard to safety of the person or property, three counts of possession of a weapon or ammo by the convicted felon, possession of a short barreled gun, rifle or a machine gun and also for driving while license suspended or revoked.
