Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chairman Jay Shah has confirmed that the appointment of the new head coach will be announced soon. Rahul Dravid has been India's head coach since November 2021 and his contract was extended after the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the board is expected to announce the appointment of a new coach soon and Dravid is unlikely to extend his contract. Dravid's current contract with the BCCI as head coach of the Indian team ends in June and the Indian team will also take part in the T20 World Cup. Dravid and his support team have agreed to extend their tenure as India's head coach until November 2023. However, the new contract was only valid until the end of June 2024. Jay Shah has confirmed that Droid can apply for the position if he wishes, but that it will not be automatically extended as before. “Rahul’s term ends only in June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to apply,” the BCCI boss told Creuzan, without ruling out the possibility of hiring a foreign coach. “We cannot decide whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. It depends on the CAC but we are a global organization,” said a BCCI source.

Shah ruled out hiring different coaches for different formats like other international bodies. “This decision will also be made by the CAC. We have a number of players across formats, particularly Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. Furthermore, such a situation is also unprecedented in India,” which was widely criticized by international active stars including Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Shah said he would discuss the issue with stakeholders to decide whether the law should remain in effect. “The batting players were a test case,” he stressed, pointing out that the rule hampered the development of all-rounders. We will discuss this with stakeholders, including franchisees and broadcasters, before making a decision on whether to retain Impact Players. This is not permanent, but no one has submitted feedback that violates our rules.
