Rahul Dravid to lead Team India as Head Coach

In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) brought Indian ex-cricketer Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah met Rahul Dravid in Dubai and initiated the negotiations. It is heard that Rahul Dravid agreed and inked a 2 year deal. The current coach Ravi Shasttri will not continue for the role after the World Cup and the BCCI initiated talks with Rahul Dravid for the same. Rahul Dravid wanted to continue as the head of National Cricket Academy that is operated in Bengaluru.

Rahul Dravid re-applied for his same but BCCI convinced him to lead Team India as the Head Coach. Anil Kumble was the other veteran player considered for the role. It is also heard that Rahul Dravid will be paid Rs 10 crores per year for the same and a new head will be appointed for the National Cricket Academy soon. Dravid has been managing the junior team and India A since 2015. The BCCI felt that Rahul Dravid will be the ideal candidate for the role and locked him. An official from BCCI said that Rahul Dravid will keep a watch on NCA even if he mentors Team India. The BCCI also asked him if he can turn the incharge of men's cricket and mentor both seniors and juniors.
