Another Kambala Racer beats Srinivasa Gowd’s Record

Another Kambala racer has created a record as the fastest Kambala racer by surpassing the record that has earlier been created by Srinivasa Gowda.

Nishanth Shetty has beat the record that has been created by Srinivasa Gowda of completing the 100 meter race in 9.55 seconds. Surya Chandra Kambala that has been held at Venur has witness Nishanth Shetty completing the 100- meter mark in just 9.52 seconds which is said to be 0.3 seconds faster when compared to the record done by Srinivasa Gowda.

Akkeri Suresh Shetty and Irvathuru Anand who have taken part in the same Kambala have also come very close to the record made by Srinivasa Gowda by covering the distance in 9.57 seconds.

Nishanth was riding the buffaloes (Bolle- Kaje) of the Erimaru Gopalakrishna Bhat in Hagga- Hiriya category has covered the 143- meter long slushy track in 13.61 seconds which meant that he has taken only 9.52 seconds for the completion of first 100 meters, as said by the organizers of Kambala.

It has been said that Srinivasa Gowda who is of 28 years of age had earlier 13.62 seconds in order to cover a distance of 145 metres at the Kambala at Aikala village about 30 kilo metres from Mangaluru.

Gowda is said to be on a record- breaking spree during the Kambala season that is currently happening and has bagged 29 prizes in the 12 Kambalas that he has participated in during the current season of Kambala.

A new record has been created by Srinivasa Gowda by winning prizes in all the four categories at the Aikala event which is said to the first in the history of Kambala. He has also won three prizes each in a couple of other events of Kambala.

The Kambala jockeys get a remuneration of Rs 1-2 lakh to train buffaloes and also take part in the competitions in the Kambala Season and they would also given cash prizes by the owners if their buffaloes win in any of the contests at the Kambala.
