Footballer from University of Florida stopped sexual assault

Police informed that a University of Florida football player helped to prevent the rape of an unconscious woman behind a trash bin outside a Gainesville bar.

Cristian Garcia said that he was taking out the trash from the bar where he worked as security early on Thursday, while he noticed a couple having sex. He initially thought it to be consensual, but then he noticed that the woman was unconscious. Garcia informed that the man's friends were watching the assault, and did nothing to to stop that.

Garcia, a junior walk-on who played linebacker for the Gators, said that he and a fellow bouncer Leroyea Simmons Jackson walked up and stopped it.

Gainesville police arrested 34 years old Christopher Shaw and charged him with sexual battery of the 19 years old victim. He told, “The girl was basically unconscious, so I knew there was no way she could be giving consent,” He was sentenced to jail, in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Garcia said that he grabbed the man by his shoulder. He added, “I said, ‘Get off her! Get off her. And he was like, ‘Mind your business.’ I yanked him one more time. He got off. Then he got aggressive with me.”

Police said Shaw ran away from Garcia and Jackson, but later he was caught and officers were able to identify him from a video shot by a bystander. Police said that the woman informed investigators in a hospital interview that she didn't even know Shaw and she tried to push him away but kept losing consciousness. Police informed that she was intoxicated.
